The Sulfurhead (Aulonocara maylandi) is one of the classic peacocks of Lake Malawi. The male has a deep blue body with dark bars, spotted fins and an orange-yellow stripe that runs from the snout along the whole head and back: hence the name, "sulfur head".
We have two adult males of 16 and 17 cm, a large size for the species, which usually stays at 11 to 13 cm. They already show their adult color. The photos show the fish for sale, in hand in the tank and on the net.
Like all peacocks, it is calm, swims in open water and sifts the sand for food. It needs a tank of 300 liters or more, with fine sand and room to swim. It does well with other peacocks in different colors and calm haps such as the Blue Dolphin; avoid aggressive mbuna. Food: quality cichlid pellets, with krill or mysis a couple of times a week.
